Marc Ian Tobias
Vice President of Operations

Marc Ian TobiasMarc Ian Tobias is vice president of operations at Americans for the Arts. His responsibilities include providing effective leadership and management of Americans for the Arts’ operations which includes instituting human resource systems and best employment practices, ensuring organizational-wide policies and procedures are maintained, managing all institution-wide administration functions, and overseeing the production management of the organization’s annual meetings and events. Prior to this appointment in January 2004, he was director of meetings and events at Americans for the Arts for six years.

Marc's broad-based background in the nonprofit sector includes working with trade and membership associations, philanthropic organizations, and association management companies. Before joining Americans for the Arts in 1998, he was the manager of education programs with the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives (GWSAE). With GWSAE, he implemented professional development programs specifically designed for the nonprofit professional. He also served as membership coordinator with several associations managed by Smith, Bucklin and Associates, an association management company.

In 2007, Marc earned his CAE credential (Certified Association Executive) from the American Society of Association Executives and in 2003 he received his CMP designation (Certified Meeting Professional) from the Convention Industry Council.
