Land Bridge Project

Project Description
The Minnesota farming community is deeply divided between farmers struggling to maintain family farms and those who contract with agribusiness. Related tensions exist between farmers and banks, legislators and rural activists, and between neighbors. The Land Bridge Project, developed and implemented in collaboration with the Perpich Center for Arts Education, is anchored in rural Montevideo and urban Minneapolis, Minnesota.  It seeks to engage rural and urban residents in theater activity to talk about and understand these various dimensions of the farm crisis.  Theater educator Tory Peterson and CTC company members have conducted theater workshops in Montevideo with farmers and their families, teachers, local artists, and rural residents over a year, honoring their untold stories and exploring the issue. In addition, a new work, Stories from Montevideo, was developed through interviews and a dialogue process conducted by guest artist Rebecca Brown and CTC apprentices. Performed in both the urban and rural communities, Stories from Montevideo will enable CTC to experiment with new approaches to performance-based dialogue
