Peter I. Bijur, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Texaco Inc., was born on October 14, 1942, in New York, New York. He earned a master of business administration degree from Columbia University in 1966, joined Texaco that same year, and has remained at Texaco throughout his career. He was elected Vice Chairman of the Board of Texaco Inc. in the January 1996 and was elected to his current position in July 1996. He is Chairman of the American Petroleum Institute and the Business Council of New York State, Inc. and serves on the Board of Trustees of The Conference Board, the Business Council, the Business Roundtable, the National Petroleum Council, and the Council on Foreign Relations. Bijur presently serves on the Board of Trustees of Middlebury College and Mount Sinai-New York University Medical Center. He is a member of the Board of the Botanical Garden and a Managing Director of the Metropolitan Opera Association.
