Rusty Foley was appointed Executive Director of Arizona Citizens/Action for the Arts in July 2011, after serving as interim director for 10 months. Foley had served on the organization’s board since 2003, including terms as president of both Citizens for the Arts and Action for the Arts.
A lifelong Phoenician, Foley has spent her career as a communications and public affairs professional and community leader. After 10 years working as a reporter for local newspapers, she spent 25 years with the local water and power utility, Salt River Project, including 17 years as an executive manager in communications, community relations and corporate philanthropy.
Her community leadership roles have included terms as chair of Valley Leadership, Arizona’s premier leadership development organization; a vice president of the Scottsdale Chamber of Commerce; chair of the Phoenix Historic Preservation Commission; chair of the Experience Matters Consortium, and membership on the boards of the Valley of the Sun United Way, Arizona Foundation for Women and the Scottsdale Prevention Institute.
As an activist in the arts, she also has served on the boards of Childsplay and the Arizona Theatre Company, and on the Phoenix Art Museum Corporate Council. She was named the Phoenix Arts and Business Council’s Arts Board Member of the Year in 2007, and received Phoenix Theatre’s “Women Who Care” award for outstanding achievement in 2009.
Among her personal interests, Foley enjoys theatre, music, the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Beatles, trying new restaurants and Mid-Century modern collectibles.
