The FAQ of Ordering 2008 Reports

Q: What do the Creative Industries reports look like?
There are two different versions of the Creative Industries reports—the Standard Report and the Detailed Report:

  1. Standard Report
This three-page report includes (1) a color map of the region, (2) a summary table listing the number of arts-related businesses and employment, and (3) a trend table outlining the percentage of change from 2007 to 2008. These reports are provided electronically as Adobe Acrobat (pdf) files. View a sample Standard Report (pdf, 441KB).
  2. Detailed Report
This report is a sortable Microsoft Excel spreadsheet that lists each arts-related business in your community. Each business listing includes the business name, the city in which it is located, its total number of employees, and its arts-related industry (e.g., Museums and Collections). Note: Due to our licensing agreement, the Detailed Report does not include contact information. View a sample Detailed Report (pdf, 130KB).

Q: Why are these reports so valuable?
The Creative Industries reports provide graphic illustration of the geographic and economic reach of the arts is your area.

  • As of January 2008, there are 612,095 arts-related businesses in the United States—one in 23 U.S. businesses is an arts-centric business. It’s a formidable industry.
  • The Creative Industries maps will demonstrate the broad distribution of these businesses throughout your area. What makes this research especially potent is that data can be localized to any city, county, region, or political jurisdiction (Congress, state House/Senate districts, even local wards in the larger cities and counties).
  • Nationally, 2.98 million people are employed by arts-centric businesses. There is a critical need for strong arts education policies to provide a workforce and to grow audiences for these industries.
  • Creative Industries are the high-octane fuel of the information economy—the fastest growing sector of the U.S. economy.
  • The reliable and accurate data are from Dun & Bradstreet, the leading business provider of global business information.

Q: How long does it take to receive the reports?
Turn around time is usually one to two weeks.

Q: How much do they cost?
As indicated on the table below, our price structure is based on Americans for the Arts membership status.
