Public Leadership in the Arts

The National Public Leadership in the Arts Awards are given in recognition of an elected official or artist who plays an important role in the advancement of the arts and arts education within his or her community, and whose vision and leadership provide heightened visibility to the value of the arts.

Three 2009 National Leadership in the Arts Awards are currently open for nominations. The County (Governing Board), Lieutenant Governor, and State Legislator categories will be presented throughout the month of July 2009. The State Legislator Award will be presented in partnership with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) at their annual meeting in Philadelphia, July 20–24, 2009. The County (Governing Board) Award will be presented at the National Association of Counties (NACO) annual meeting in Nashville, July 24–28, 2009. The Lieutenant Governor Award will be presented in partnership with the National Lieutenant Governors Association (NLGA) at their annual meeting in Baltimore, July 28–31, 2009.

The deadline for nominations for the County (Governing Board), Lieutenant Governor, and State Legislator Awards has been extended to May 29, 2009.

The Gubernatorial and Mayoral Awards were presented at the U.S. Conference of Mayors Winter Meeting in Washington, DC, January 17–19, 2009 and the Congressional Award was presented at the Congressional Arts Breakfast during Arts Advocacy Day on March 31, 2009 in Washington, DC.
